Tenses in English in general are 12 tenses. They are as follow: simple present, simple past, simple future, present continuous, past continuous, future continuous, present perfect, past perfect, future perfect, present perfect continuous, past perfect continuous, and future perfect continuous. Each tense has its own use and function.  This blog  explains the present tense in particular, which consist of four categories: simple, continuous, perfect, and the perfect continuous.

 The present tense is a very important tense in the English language, because it is used in a great number of very different situations in our lives. It is relatively easy to understand for people learning English. However, it is the best tense to learn first. OK, now it’s time to have a look at the uses of this tense. in brief the uses of the present tense are as follow: expressing facts, habits, routines, as well as indicating an action in the future..Etc. Present Simple

Subject + Verb + Object

• Be aware of the following

• If the subject is (He, She, or it) the verb must be followed by an “S”, taking into consideration “S” rule.

• If the subject is (I, You, We, or they) nothing added after the verb.

Take Into consideration the following:

• If the subject is (He, She, or It) add “Is” after it (the subject).

• If the subject is (we, you, or they) add “are” after it.

• If the subject is (I) then add “am” after the subject.

When to use the Present Continuous

1- When an action happening while speaking

• I am going home now.

• He/she is having lunch now.

• They are playing football.

2- When talking about the future    

• We are going home next week.

• He is travelling to London tomorrow.

In order to learn how to construct sentences in the Present Perfect

      Present Perfect    

Subject +  Has/Have  +  Verb.3  +  Object

Be aware of:

If the subject is (He, She, or It) add “has” after the subject.

If the subject is (I, they, we, or you) then add “have”.

• We use the Present Perfect to say that an action happened at an unspecified time before now. The exact time is not important. You CANNOT use the Present Perfect with specific time expressions such as: yesterday, one year ago, last week, when I was a child, when I lived in Japan, at that moment, that day, one day, etc. We CAN use the Present Perfect with unspecific expressions such as: ever, never, once, many times, several times, before, so far, already, yet, etc.

Present Perfect Examples

• I have/I’ve read the book.

• He has/ he’s played football.

• They have/they’ve seen the movie.

• You have seen that movie many times.

• Have you seen that movie many times?

• He has never traveled by train.

• Joan has studied two foreign languages.

• I have never been to France.

• People have traveled to the Moon.

• I think I have met him once before.

• He has been to France.

• James has not finished his homework yet.

When to use present Perfect

• In describing an action happened and finished in the past, but its impact still until the present time.
  

  • He has broken her leg.

  • They have stolen the money.

  • I have bought an expensive car since two years.

  • My English has really improved since I moved to Malaysia.
